Having Fun With Kids Woodworking Projects

There are so many fun and new things that you can start doing with your kids as they get older. You can even start in on some kids woodworking projects with them. Of course you just want to ensure that only the grownups are using the large and dangerous equipment and keep the safer parts of the projects to the kids. You can choose to make this as large or small as you want, depending on how much experience with woodworking you have and how long you want to spend working on it.

This is a great project to start with because it’s simple enough that the kids won’t get frustrated with it and yet still something that they’d be proud to show off. One is a perfect project for Halloween, because it will be a large Halloween lawn figure that can be used to decorate the front yard. Then to get started you need to decide on a pattern for your figurine. Then you want to print the pattern off the computer or trace onto paper, put carbon paper over the plywood and lay the pattern over top of this.

Then you trace all of the lines, pressing hard with your pencil as you go so that the marks will be indented into the wood. Make sure that the kids are pressing hard with their pencils so the carbon paper will trace through solidly onto the wood, otherwise it’s going to be hard to tell where to cut. Next you smooth all the edges down with sandpaper and this is a great job for the kids to do on their own because the sandpaper is rough but not enough to hurt them. Keep going until the sides are all completely smooth and again this is a great part for the kids because you don’t have to worry about them getting hurt on sandpaper.

Once the edges are smooth it can be painted any color you want, and you may even want to use some accessories to finish the piece off. Another woodworking project for kids that’s also great for the Halloween time of year is to make a trick or treating basket. For this project you’re going to need to choose a pattern again, but think of something that’s going to be large and convenient to carry candy in. If you’re working with a bit younger child, you may want to stick to a much more basic project.

Woodworking projects are a lot of fun for older children. Kids really enjoy woodworking projects because it lets them create things that they can treasure for a lifetime. Most kids love doing crafts and as kids get older and are able to use the tools on their own, they can come up with some really creative and exciting ideas. As long as you’re cautious with what you’re giving them to work with, you can have a great time.

Great post full of useful tips! My site is fairly new and I am also having a hard time getting my readers to leave comments. Analytics shows they are coming to the site but I have a feeling “nobody wants to be first”. I just started my new blog here:prohormones
